- מְלָאכָה, מְלֶאכֶתf. (b. h.; preced.) work, trade, vocation; task. Ab. I, 10 אהוב את המ׳ love trade, opp. to רבנות, office. Ned.49b, v. גָּדוֹל. Ber.17a אני מְלַאכְתִּי בעיר my work (study) is done in town, והוא מְלַאכְתּוֹ בשדהוכ׳ and his, in the field , v. גָּדַר. Ab. II, 14 בעל מְלַאכְתְּךָ thy employer (the Lord). Ib. 15 היום קצר והמ׳ מרובה the day (life) is short, and the task great. Ab. dR. N. ch. XI ועשו בו מ׳ בשבת (not ועשה) and they made him work on the Sabbath.
